Texas Society of Professional Engineers Select Kara Heasley as 2008 Young Engineer of the Year>
The Bexar Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers has named Kara Heasley, P.E. as the Young Engineer of the Year for 2008. This annual award is given to a young engineer to acknowledge the recipient’s technical ability and professional achievements, as well as
their civic and humanitarian activities.
Kara has been a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) since 1996 and of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) since 2006. She served as the San Antonio Branch ASCE Secretary in 2006-2007 and as Vice President of Membership in 2007-2008. Kara enjoys volunteering with charitable and service organizations, and over the years has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Public Affairs Committee of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition.

2006 Engineering Excellence
Award Council of Engineering Companies Project: Stone Oak Temple
Vickrey & Associates,
Inc. is a proud recipient of
the 2006 Engineering Excellence Award for their work on the San Antonio
Temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by the San
Antonio Chapter of the Texas Council of Engineering Companies (SACEC).
V&A was involved in
all phases of this project including the schematic design, final design,
permitting and construction phase. This project was deemed outstanding
due to the complexity of the site and the innovative designs which
incorporated drainage and other improvements into the natural
landscapes. A world renown temple,
over 70,000 people visited the site before it was closed to the public.
2005 Engineering Excellence
Award Council of Engineering Companies Project: Surveying the San Antonio River
& Traversing Back in Time Vickrey
& Associates, Inc. was selected for the 2005 Engineering Excellence Award for the San
Antonio Chapter of the Texas Council of Engineering Companies for V&A's
San Antonio River Survey Project. V&A's report entitled "Surveying the
San Antonio River and Traversing Back in Time" was submitted and received
recognition from the local chapter of the San Antonio Council of
Engineering Companies (SACEC). This project received additional
recognition at the State level during the Texas CEC (TCEC), 39th Annual
Meeting in Austin, Texas.

Engineers Select Mr. Steve Horvath as 2006 Engineer of the Year The Bexar
County Chapter of the Texas Society of
Professional Engineers recognized Mr. Stephen Horvath, P.E. as 2006
Engineer of the Year at the Engineer of the Year. Mr.
Horvath, P.E., is Vice President and Principal-In-Charge of Vickrey &
Associates, Inc. He is a Professional Engineer and a Registered
Professional Land Surveyor with over 34 years of experience in civil
engineering and surveying consulting in central and south Texas.

Elects Brenda Vickrey Johnson 2007 Chairman of the Board The
Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors elected
Brenda Vickrey Johnson 2007 Chairman of the Board. Johnson is
President and CEO of Vickrey and Associates, Inc. since 1995.
Brenda Vickrey Johnson has more than 25 years of financial, project
management and marketing experience in the engineering and banking
industries. She was recently named Chair Elect of the 2007 Greater San
Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Her
background specifically includes 20 years experience in Corporate
Management in the Civil Engineering Consulting field where she has
worked extensively in Strategic Planning, Financial Management, Contract
Administration, Business Development, Marketing, and Human Resource
Management. She is experienced in the application of time and fiscal
management skills to successfully achieve project and corporate
objectives and is responsible for the overall financial, administrative,
and technical operations of the firm. She is experienced in the
administration and contract management of numerous large engineering
contracts.
Projects for which Ms. Johnson has provided Contract Compliance and Contract
Administration services are The City of Austin ACWP – Govalle 3, 4, & 5,
Sanitary Sewer Flow Monitoring Project - Central Watershed (SAWS),
Street Rehabilitation & Reconstruction Projects for TxDOT - Zarzamora,
O’Connor, & Hildebrand Roads, the Salado Creek Watershed Study for the
City of San Antonio, and Pavement Management Study Contracts. Other
Contracts for TxDOT include I10/410 Interchange Drainage Improvements,
281 Drainage Improvements; and the TxDOT San Antonio & Austin District
Survey Evergreen Contracts and the City of Austin’s Survey Rotation
List Contract.
Ms. Johnson drafted the Public Involvement Plan for use on the MPO Major
Investment Study for improvements along the Northeast IH-35 Corridor and
participated in providing technical support at public and planning
meetings.
Other site development projects include the Lakeline Crossing/Homestead
commercial/retail site development in Austin, Texas, the Freeport
Business Center project in South San Antonio, a 483 acre industrial
park. Management of V&A’s technical support and data collection and rail
condition surveys of over 100 miles of rail for the TxDOT Commuter Rail
Study from San Antonio to Georgetown.
Ms. Johnson was the Principal in Charge of V&A’s work for the 2002 City
of San Antonio’s GASB 34 Infrastructure Valuations of streets, signs,
signals, and drainage systems and for the 2005 GASB 34 evaluation of the
DFW Airport Infrastructure.
