Bexar County Juvenile Detention & Probation Center Campus
Development
San Antonio, Texas

Vickrey & Associates, Inc. completed the civil engineering design and surveying services for a joint-use, 11-acre site in Bexar County. The project included the design and construction of a new Probation Center Campus and maintenance building and an addition to the existing Detention Center. The Detention Center expansion includes an intake processing center, clinic/gymnasium, and 72-bed housing unit which are currently under construction. Demolition of several buildings was required in order to make room for the expansion and reconfiguration of the parking lots. V&A provided final construction documents which consisted of site dimension, grading, utility and fire protection plans, coordination of subdivision plat, site drainage analysis, water and sewer infrastructure design, and utility coordination. In addition, boundary and topographic surveys were completed for the design of the project. The project included extensive drainage coordination to correct existing deficiencies within the site, and utility coordination to determine potential conflicts that involved potholing and subsurface utility engineering. Coordination related to improvements to an existing 36-inch sanitary sewer line that bisected the project site was also involved. V&A’s project manager coordinated with the County Program Manager and prepared cost estimates throughout the design phases to confirm the project remained within the County’s budget. V&A also developed as-built drawings, attended bi-weekly progress meetings, made periodic site visits, reviewed contractor’s submittals and payment requisitions, and assisted the Owner with Change Orders during the Construction Phase of the project.
