Jeff Tondre and Ryan Plagens are now Certified Floodplain Managers

More congratulations are in order for our newest Certified Floodplain Managers (CFMs)! On August 20, 2010, after attending a week of training, Jeff and Ryan, along with 30 other individuals traveled to the City of San Antonio’s Tool Yard to take the Texas National CFM Exam. Both Ryan and Jeff passed the exam and are now CFM’s, Certified Floodplain Managers. To pass the exam, a score of 70 was required. 84% of the class passed the exam with an average score 77. Our very own Jeff Tondre achieved the highest score in the class with an incredible 92% accuracy rate!

Jeff Tondre, PE and Ryan Plagens, EIT can now add CFM to their professional registrations. As CFMs and PEs, Jeff and Ryan take an active role in helping to preserve the natural and cultural values of floodplains. Utilizing their in-depth knowledge of floodplain planning and best management practices, they will continue to develop civil engineering designs that mitigate flooding thereby reducing property damage and loss resulting from such events.

According to the Texas Floodplain Management Association’s website, “the role of the nation’s floodplain managers is expanding due to increases in disaster losses, the emphasis being placed upon mitigation to alleviate the cycle of damage-rebuild-damage, and a recognized need for professionals to adequately address these issues.” Thanks to Ryan, Jeff and our resident CFM, Ken Rogers, PE for your commitment to management of the state's floodplains and related water resources.

Please be sure to congratulate Jeff and Ryan on this important accomplishment!
