3/30/2011 City Breaks Ground on Callaghan Road Widening from Culebra to Commerce

On Wednesday, March 30, Vickrey & Associates, Inc. (V&A) President Brenda Vickrey Johnson, Vice President Steve Horvath and Project Manager Susan Landreth joined City of San Antonio Councilmen Ray Lopez (District 6) and Justin Rodriguez (District 7) and neighborhood residents to break ground on construction of the Callaghan Road (Culebra to Commerce) project.

V&A served as the design consultant on the project, which will widen and reconstruct Callaghan Road from Culebra Road to Commerce Street and include dual turn lanes, a multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists, sidewalks, curbs, driveway approaches, a raised median, and necessary drainage and traffic-signal improvements. The drainage improvements include the construction of a new storm drain system, culverts, and a drainage channel along Callaghan. In addition, the project will realign the road to remove an “S” curve. The groundbreaking marks the completion of two years of work by V&A’s design and survey teams, which included: Stephen Horvath, PE, RPLS; Susan Landreth, PE, CSM; Bjorn Boentges, EIT; Robert Collett, PE; John DeHan, RPLS; and Robert Anguiano, SIT.

The construction contract for this project was awarded in February 2011 to James Construction Group, formerly Cravens Services. Construction is estimated for completion by April 2012.
