2/28/2011 V&A sponsors TSPE’s Engineers Week to raise scholarship funds and awareness for the industry.

This Saturday evening’s TSPE Engineer of the Year banquet was the culmination of the 2011 Engineer’s Week festivities put on by the Bexar County TSPE and San Antonio Chapter of the ASCE. The event honored this year’s “Engineer of the Year” and included social hour, dinner and casino night at the prestigious JW Marriott Hotel and Resort. As the President-Elect of the San Antonio Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers this year, Kara Heasley, P. E., LEED AP, & Project Manager of Vickrey & Associates, Inc. managed every detail of executing a successful 2010 Engineer of the Year Banquet.

When asked about the event, Ms. Heasley noted, “I think it is safe to say that the Engineer of the Year Banquet was a great success again this year. It was held at the new JW Marriott Hotel and Resort, and we had the largest crowd that anyone can remember, with over 350 people in attendance! …A great time was had by all who attended, and significant scholarship funds were raised for engineering students too!”

In addition, as a 2011 sponsor of the banquet and the week-long event, V&A had the opportunity to participate in a variety of other activities to promote the industry and raise money for engineering scholarships. V&A’s participation began on Tuesday, as we invited three students from the local Reagan High School to visit our office and spend part of the day shadowing our engineers and surveyors. Students learned about a day in the life of a civil engineer and enjoyed learning about the tools and software utilized by both the engineering and surveying departments. Members of the V&A team also participated in the golf scramble, 5K Family Fun Run, and Skeet Shoot at various venues throughout the county.

At V&A we believe in the importance of promoting our industry and encouraging students to pursue a career in engineering. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the local chapters of TSPE and ASCE in pursuing similar goals, and we look forward to supporting them for years to come.
